Following the introduction of the Depositories Act in 1996, NSDL pioneered the concept of dematerialisation of securities in India, since November 1996. What is NSDL in financial market?

NSDL, or National Securities Depository Limited, is an Indian central securities depository in the Indian financial market, established on August 8, 1996. It serves as the first and largest central securities depository in India, facilitating the holding, trading, and settlement of securities in electronic form.

Who is the current CEO of NSDL?

The current CEO of National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) is Padmaja Chunduru. She has held this position since October 2021 and brings over 30 years of experience in the banking and regulatory sectors, both in India and the United States. Before her role at NSDL, she served as the Managing Director and CEO of the Indian Bank and has held various significant positions within the State Bank of India, including Country Head for U.S. Operations.

Financial Performance of NSDL

In the fiscal year 2022-23, NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited) reported a strong financial performance. 

 

  • The total income was Rs. 1,021.99 crore, compared to Rs. 761.11 crore, indicating a 34% increase. 
  • The Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) stood at Rs. 255.25 crore, and the Profit After Tax (PAT) was recorded at ₹234.81 crore. 
  • The net worth of NSDL reached Rs.1,428.86 crore in FY23, highlighting its strong financial position. 
  • Additionally, the company maintained a market capitalization of approximately Rs. 16,800 crore as of April 30, 2024.
